Final Chance for Tickets!!! Final Chance to See Kristy!!!

What do you mean you haven’t bought your tickets for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival Brisbane yet!? Are you planning to wear humiliation as part of your wardrobe this season? Is disappointment the new must-have accessory?

OK, we’re kidding. But seriously, with more than 10,000 tickets already sold for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival – Brisbane, hosted by City Hall, there is going to be no other place to be next week. And there’s just a few days left for you to grab your piece of the action and to spot Kristy front row!

Incredibly, with our City Hall venue we have sold more tickets than were ever available at our previous home, proving that Brisbane is a city full of fashionistas ready to see amazing fashion for Spring/Summer 09/10.

Already, our fantastic launch event – the Portside Wharf Hamilton Swimwear Group Show – is sold out, and most of our other Group Shows have completely filled their ground floor seating. Fortunately, our move to City Hall means we can also offer great viewing from the mezzanine level, and there are still good seats available for most shows in this area.

For those of you still looking to reserve a spot, here’s a handy guide to what’s still available to see and be seen at these fabulous catwalk extravaganzas next week:

  • Soul by Juniper Group Show featuring Akira, Camargue and Easton Pearson on Sunday: ground floor sold out; mezzanine seating still available.
  • On Monday, at 6pm, The Sunday Mail Group Show featuring Chelsea de Luca, Talulah, Katelyn Aslett, Sacha Drake, Pia du Pradal, Grbac: ground floor sold out; mezzanine seating only.

  • At 9pm, Mercedes-Benz Group Show 5 featuring Paul Hunt, George Wu, Tengdahl, Tulipani, Toscano, Bora, Darb Bridal Couture: mezzanine only
  • On Tuesday, at 6.30pm, Mercedes-Benz Group Show 6 featuring dogstar, Daniel Alexander, Mother Maria, Zaicek, Maiocchi, Pistols at Dawn and La La Luxe: very limited ground seating available, mezzanine seating yet to be released.
  • At 8pm, Mercedes-Benz Group Show 7 featuring Nicola Finetti, Kirrily Johnston, Pink Mint featuring Jenny Bannister and Lisa Ho: ground floor sold out; mezzanine seating only.

Memo to MBFFashionistas: I Will Survive!

How to survive six days of non-stop preening, posing and partying, while still looking glam beside the catwalk? We’ve asked some of our extended Festival Family to share their top tips.

Napoleon Perdis: Be ahead of the pack with your makeup look in the lead-up to the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival Brisbane! We will be delivering a number of makeup trends.  Most important is to take elements that particularly excite you, and adapt this to what you are comfortable wearing.  For example, we are doing a bold shade or coral for the lips - DeVine Goddess Lipstick in Hara - at one of the shows because it's so electrifying and modern.  You might adapt the colouring to your own personal style by softening the shade or adding a subtle gloss.

And don’t forget to have your own complimentary princess moment at the Napoleon Perdis Lip Bar, where one of our talented makeup artists will perfect your pout, and you and can also buy all of my latest collections.

Kellie Alderman

Kellie Alderman: Like an elite athlete training for a big race, MBFF demands some dedicated pre-event planning:

  1. Get lots of sleep the week before. You won’t be getting much during the festival.
  2. This week, before the action starts, ensure you’ll be in peak condition by visiting the beauty salon for a mani/pedi, facial and eyebrow shape, and the hair salon to refresh your highlights.
  3. Planning to unveil some sensational new stilettos at MBFF? If so, make sure you break them in by wearing them a few times at home to avoid painful heel horrors and foot fatigue when you’re out and about.
  4. Workshop your wardrobe to determine what you’ll wear each day, including accessories.

And during the big week:

  1. Pack band-aids (for shoe pain), wet wipes (any little clothing spill emergencies), paw paw ointment (for lips, cracked heels, errant cuticles), mini versions of your fav deodorant, perfume, make-up, paracetamol for emergencies, a great scarf, pair of earrings or cocktail ring that can change your look at a moments notice and a camera for when you spot Kristy Hinze front-row. See left in case you’re unsure.
  2. For every glass of bubbles you drink, drink a glass of water.
  3. Don’t hold back on your style – this is your chance to break out your best looks.
  4. Be nice. The fashion industry may have a reputation for bitching and backstabbing but in real life, there’s no room for diva tantrums. Remember most of the lovely staff trying to seat you are volunteers so treat them with respect.
  5. Perfect your air-kiss: it’s cheek to cheek, with lips never touching the other cheek. Of course, feel free to improvise your own sound effects. Mwah!
  6. Plan a few days off after the event – you’ll need it!

Kristy Hinze

Georgie Lewis: Don’t forget that tickets sell out fast to the big name shows. Plan early with a group of friends and make a fun, social night out of it. If you are a fashion devotee you may want to plan your outfits in advance so there’s no wardrobe meltdown when you are running out the door. And break your stilettos in beforehand!
  Georgie Lewis

Robin Bailey: Sleep is the greatest secret to looking fab during the festival – but if you can’t get that, the next-best thing is to pack a good concealer, touch up your makeup and change clothes between lunch time activities and the night time parades. My greatest tip is to stay away from children at dinner time when leaving for the night time parade. There is nothing worse than walking into a room full of great designers with pizza remnants all over your clothes, and believe me - tomato paste does stain!
  Robin Bailey

Chris Budd, Mercedes-Benz Brisbane: Ensure you have your hair, nails and spray tan done the week before – the day of is a no-no! Have a wardrobe fashion plan – dress to suit the event or show you are attending and lay out your wardrobe for the week in the spare bedroom with accessories. Definitely visit but don’t stay too long in the sponsors lounge or Rosemount O bar – pace yourself for the week and most importantly, fit in your regular gym sessions as you’ll need your stamina and you don’t want to risk the wrath of your trainer!
  Chris Bud

Craig Smith, Hair Director Schwarzkopf Professional: Freshly cut hair always stands out. With that in mind, ask your stylist for new season trends, they might inspire a change! People will also notice hair that is freshly coloured. The absence of regrowth and that new colour shine will be sure to turn heads. The key to cool hair that will last from a day in the office to a night by the catwalk and beyond is preparation. Make sure your hair is supported with a good handful of mousse – OSiS Grip is your best friend for this. Style/blowdry or set to your desired result, making sure the hair has been dried 100%, residue moisture will not work in your favour! Finish with a medium hold spray such as OSiS Elastic and you’re set to go.

Showcasing the best local, national and international designs available on the Mall in short, sharp daily parades, “Queen Street Mall Fashion Snaps” have become a perennial crowd-pleaser at the Festival. Best of all, it’s free!

Plus, this year sees the launch of an exciting new MBFF event – the “Fairest of the Mall” – where three gorgeous people will be selected from the crowd each day to receive $400 each to spend, with the help of their own personal stylists, in a 45-minute shopping spree on the Queen Street Mall.

Each of the lucky winners will be assigned one of our three Brisbane style gurus – Mark Winchester, Margo Bowers and Lucia Arias-Martinez – to help them with their express makeover in one of the southern hemisphere’s largest fashion precincts.

Holding court on the Queen Street Mall stage, as hosts for the week, will be Bill McDonald and Amanda Fitzgerald from Network 10, Robin Bailey from 97.3FM and Kellie Alderman from The Sunday Mail. While the fashion stylists work their magic and help splash the cash, watch great parades featuring the latest looks and hear from Napoleon Perdis and Schwarzkopf Professional stylists about makeup and hair trends for the season.
